Anyone have a favorite place to go around Kentucky?  I have yet to find a campground that suits my need for a campground that isn't all cramped up and packed in like sardines in a can.    I am sure there has to be one around but I haven't found THE perfect local campground.  Yes, yes, I know it is all relative but any suggestions?

We enjoyed our stay at Natural Bridge State Park last summer.  Not nice private treed sites like we normally go for, but clean and well kept, with some nice things to do in the area.

Try Taylorsville Lake State Park.  The section we stayed in had lots of space, and the shower facilities were new and clean.  There were lots of trees around the grounds, but not many between the sites.
We are close to Indiana, and camp mostly in Indiana.  We just got back from our first trip this year to the Hoosier National Forest, and stayed at the Hardin Ridge Recreation area campground.  I really liked it,  Plenty of room and Trees between the sites.  DW was not as pleased as I; she did not like the shower facilities.
If you are near Northern KY, try Versailles State Park in Indiana just north of Madison.  We go there at least twice a year.

Moved out of the area over 20 years ago, I lived on the "Sunny Side" of Louisville, we camped at one of the State Park Resorts (KY) with a narrow guage RR (try 1973 or '74) I remember that was nice, in fact I think it was Natural Bridge.  Most of my camping was done at Deam Lake in Southern Indiana above Louisville and Pekin IN, also stayed at Lake Rudolf (Holiday World) when it was still Santa Clause Land...that dates me.  All that camping was in a tent.

I did bring the popup to Deam Lake a few years back, nice sized site.  And I brought the hybrid to Louisville North KOA...wa not allowed to put out my awning because the behemouths might take it out and/or they could not get their slides out...walk out the front door and be carefull so you do not trip over the neighbor's electic...I choose Deam Lake...there is a "new" SP somewhere near Charleston IN...sorry, pass through KY, do not camp there...

Last summer, we stayed at the campground in Mammoth Cave National Park.  The campground was only about 1/10th full.  All sites are primitive, so you had a lot of tents.  There were only a few popups and only one motorhome.  Even with the blast-furnace heat, we had a good time.

Hi kriscake,
Around the Kentucky, you can find more than 25 campgrounds, but personally I recommend following of these camping, due to amenities:
Carter Caves State Park Campground: Do you like a wide range of activities concentrated into one area then Carter Caves is the place for you.
Natural Bridge State Park Campground: You should visit Natural Bridge State Park if you want to view superlative natural beauty. The campground is average but this area is popular due to awesome view.
Yatesville Lake State Park Campground: This is not very old campground. The facilities are in good shape and not worn down by troops of campers over decades of use.
Koomer Ridge Campground Camping.
According to me, it’s the better place for outing activities and I’m sure the camping on the Kentucky would be memorable for you.

Sorry for being late to the reply party, have been out camping! Our favorite is Baliey's Point, located on Barren River in South Central KY, especially sections D and E. It is a Corp of Eng. campsite and is well maintained with water and electric in all but one section and also has a boat ramp near by. Many of the sites are actually lake side and you can fish and dock your boat (if you have one) right by your camper. We like the kid friendly atmosphere and the fact that they actually enforce the rules and will put loud, rowdy groups out and do enforce the quiet hours.

Don't know what area of KY you're wanting to stick with, but we've camped for years at Audubon State Park in Henderson.  We also used to go to Diamond Lakes in Owensboro.  Haven't been there in years, but it was very nice and had a lot of things for the kids to do.
