I've been staying on track as far as eating, but I didn't work out yesterday.  DH and I were having a disagreement and I decided just to go take a long drive to clear my head.  I should have went for a walk, huh?  I had dinner at Sonic and I ordered the grilled chicken wrap.  So, one win there and one loss for not working out.  Today is a new day, though, and I think you guys are feeling it too!  We can do this, one day at a time!!!

Got my run in the wimpy treadmill, but at least I got it done. The treadmill is way easier than actual running. One of the things I don't like is it shows me exactly how far I haven't run! I am slow. Oh well speed will come later.I won't worry about that until my 2nd marathon. Smiley

I had a good day except I fell and wrecked my knee.  So far it feels like just a really bad bruise, but I suspect it could be interesting bending it tomorrow.  So my Wii is out, and probably walking or biking, too.

This is a camping-related injury.  I stupidly left the Porta Potti sitting in the entry hallway and then when I came in the house with my arms full of stuff and didn't see it, I went flying, along with all my stuff.  I still can't believe the canning jars I was carrying all survived intact.

Frustrating my exercise routine is most likely going to have to be delayed.  I'm ready to get back into the habit.  Sad

Hope your knee feels better today, Rae!  I've been doing alright, I guess.  I spent my 30 minutes on the treadmill yesterday even though I had to drag myself in there kicking and screaming at about 9:30 last night!  I just did a walk for the whole time at 3 mph or so, but it's better than nothin'   Big Smile

You can still exercise your upper body - sit in a chair and do arm curls (use cans of soup, books or whatever for weights), military pres, etc... lie on your back and do butterfly's, bench press, etc...  you may also be able to do crunches without bothering your knee too much.

It all helps and then you don't break the time routine you're developing.

so OK I am going to join in on this one.  I got hit with some pretty bad numbers earlier this week and am trying to deal with them.. Besides eating steamed veggies for the rest of my life I need to get real with this.  My cholesterol is so high that they are going to refer me to a lipid clinic and have put me on a rather large dose of meds.  This combined with my diabetes going out of control again makes me wonder.... what do I eat.  I am not extravagant in the first place but know that pasta dishes which I love especially with the cream or rose sauces are out.  Eggs are gone... red meat is gone.  I already eat so much chicken because I really like it.  No one else in the house likes fish besides me.  Oh well enough whining... I need to go find a meal that 2 teens and my hubby will like that I can eat too!!

I don't have diabetes issue, but the cholesterol thing....wow. It runs high in our family, Dad, Grandpa and 3 of my 4 brothers(and me) all in the upper 300's before meds. I just do the best I can with the meds and my diet, I could sure do better, but I do better all the time with my diet. Less times I really fall off anyway. The running is a new thing for me, but so far it has helped to think that every slice of pizza I eat today, I will have to haul on my run tomorrow.
On another note, I think I will be adding this http://hundredpushups.com/ on my off running days.

I don't think my knee is seriously injured.  It hurts when it bends too far, but I can ride my bike okay, so that's what I'll stick with.

Connie, I'm proud of you for making yourself do the treadmill so late in the day.  If I don't get my exercise done in the early morning, it never seems to get done.

Mark you're a smart-ass and don't we love ya for it.  Wink

Slosheider, dang, and here I had my excuses all lined up!  Spoilsport!  Tongue

Loveourjayco, how do you do on portion control?  I eat pretty healthy food, just too much of it.  Also, have you talked to a registered dietician?  If not, have your doctor refer you to see one.  Before you go, track your eating habits in detail so the RD can help you with problem areas.  They can really make a big difference.  As for your family, just serve them healthier food and don't tell them the recipe came from Weight Watchers.  Most of the time they probably won't notice anything different.  It's a myth you have to eat icky food in order to eat right.  For pasta dishes, add in more green veggies and use less pasta whenever it makes sense to do so.  That way you get some of the texture and flavor of pasta with less of the bad things.  Switch to whole wheat pasta at least for part of the dish.  Nobody says you can't mix wheat and white pasta half and half, especially if you're transitioning.  Sometimes it's easier to mix the two kinds for a while till you and your family acquire a taste for the new food.  Try spaghetti squash if you haven't.  It's different than spaghetti but not too bad, and it's easy to prep, just slice it in half lengthwise, clean out the seeds, lay it upside down in a glass dish, and nuke it for a few minutes in the microwave.  For sauces, try lighter versions.  Again, you might be surprised how good they can be.  But it may take some searching and experimentation to find the right recipe.

Mike, IMO it's impossible to change every aspect of unhealthy eating all at once.  The best you can do is keep chipping away at it.  Sounds like you're working on it, as many of us are.   You'll get there!

I have been a size 5 my whole life and following back surgery that failed I found myself up to a size 16 I have no range of motion so walking is about all I can do and there are days that it is impossible.  Once I got off the steroids 2 months ago I made a complete change in my eating habits and walk everday if it is possible I eat a bowl of oatmeal with splenda and a touch of low fat butter for lunch and dinner I eat a small piece of meat or fish and lots of veggies for a treat I have a skinny cow I am now a size 10 and hoping for a size 8 it has taken a complete change and now I find I do not miss the old habits at all

Well, I've tried the treadmill thing and it just doesn't work for me; it doesn't have a cup holder so my gin-n-tonic keeps falling off that measly little shelf at the top; the one that holds the gadget with all the nice colored numbers and bar graphs...AAGGHHHH!

I do have high blood pressure, the only one in my family, and I smoke which doesn't help at all....I know, I know! I've been cutting back on the smoking, haven't salted my food in years (too much sodium in there already), watch what I eat, and walk several miles a day.

I still need to lose 15lbs or so but I take it easy due to two knee surgeries in the past 3 years; old sports injuries coming back to haunt me. However, the more I exercise, the less I crave a smoke and the stronger my knees get so that's a positive. I'll slowly increase the exercise, continue to take my BP meds, and hopefully quit smoking before 2011 is welcomed in.

One day hope to be off the BP meds altogether.

Yeah, it's amazing how a person adjusts.  We used to just love those greasy brown and serve sausage patties.  We decided to treat ourselves a few years ago and have some while we were camping.  Some treat!  We both got sick from all the grease.

thanks for all the support.  I know I am just going off the deep end and after things settle down all will be ok.  DH has me so scared (the internet is not always a good thing!).  We generally do eat pretty healthy but I have been sliding and letting the veggies go and having a few too many treats.  Just kinda feeling sorry for myself.  This is a lesson though.  The whole family is tending towards being overweight and less active so lifestyle change here we come!!!!  I went shopping today and bought a ton of veggies, dug out the steamer and will be using it regularly.  I tried switching to whole wheat pasta and that bombed but I never tried halving it with white will do that next time.  I am going to experiment with veggie sauces and I can make the meatballs with ground turkey.

Thanks for the kick in the seat of the pants its always good to have a place to go where you can feel sorry for yourself and actually get picked back up.

Hugs
